T Levels are advanced technical qualifications launched by the Department for Education (DfE) in September 2020. Developed in collaboration with industry leaders and educators, they address national skills gaps and are designed to prepare young people for the demands of the modern workplace.
These two-year programmes combine classroom-based learning with substantial industry placements, ensuring students gain both academic knowledge and real-world experience. Upon completion, students can progress to higher or degree-level apprenticeships, university, or skilled employment in their chosen field.
At Gateway College, our T Level curriculum is built around Level 3 qualifications that blend theory with hands-on learning. Each course includes core academic study, formal assessments, and a meaningful industry placement to develop sector-specific technical skills.
We also offer a T Level Foundation Programme. This is a one-year Level 2 pathway for students who are not yet ready for a full T Level. This programme helps learners build subject knowledge, improve their English and maths, and develop the confidence and skills needed to succeed at Level 3.
Every T Level student must complete an industry placement that lasts a minimum of 315 hours (approximately 45 days).
This gives them a practical understanding of their chosen industry through real-world practice, outside of the classroom.
Industry placements also give employers a unique opportunity to develop new talent and help young people become work ready.
Placements often lead to:
• Apprenticeship offers
• Part-time jobs
• Mentorships
• Strong references for the students’ future job applications
