Each year the A Level Photography students produce up to 3 images that they submit into the City Gallery ‘Open Exhibition’. This project gives the students a taste of working as a Professional Artist as they produce and present their work to gallery standards.
This is a 2 year course.
A grade A*-C / 9 -4 in GCSE English Language. A passionate interest in Art, Design or Photography and a willingness to learn. Contact us to discuss your suitability or to show us a collection of your artwork.
Portfolio of practical coursework including written personal study of a relevant artist/craftsperson/designer or movement. An externally set practical project.
This highly creative course aims to give you the confidence and skills to explore a diverse range of themes, and to develop a questioning and analytical attitude to photography. There are a variety of briefs set which will develop and underpin your research skills. You will be introduced to portraiture, landscape and studio work.You are encouraged to explore and experiment with a range of traditional and new photographic media (film based and digital applications). This is an art based subject so creativity is a key element of the course. You will create visual ideas through responses to a brief that are supported by analysis and evaluation as well as use of a range of technical equipment.
Gateway is known for an outstanding end of year exhibition which is open to the public. Your work may feature in this.
The Art and Design Programme Area at Gateway has an excellent reputation for their courses. Many students progress onto the highly successful BTEC Pre-Degree Foundation Diploma in Art and Design through to a variety of high profile BA (Hons) degrees in Film, Media and Photography courses. This course will be valuable for those students who wish to pursue a career related to the visual arts.

After photographs are submitted there is a selection process by a panel of judges and successful candidates have their work exhibited alongside the work of well-known Professional Artists from the East Midlands.
