Celebrating Disability History Month: Leo’s Success with Project Search

This Disability History Month, Gateway Sixth Form College is proud to recognise the achievements and contributions of disabled people, including our student Leo, whose journey is an inspiring example of determination and success.

Leo is completing the DFN Project Search internship, working on Ward 28 at UHL Glenfield Hospital as part of the housekeeping team. He joined Gateway College from Ashfield Academy, studying IT in his first year, and has now thrived in the Project Search programme.

Living with autism, mild Tourette’s, visual and hearing impairments, physical disabilities, and complex learning disabilities, Leo approaches each day with calm determination and strength. With support from Gateway College, the Project Search team, his family, and mentors, he has grown in confidence and quickly become a valued member of the ward. Within just eight days of his palcement, he received a ‘Message to Matron’ commendation.

Project Search Tutor Katy Middleton said:
We couldn’t be prouder of how far Leo has come and the positive impact he’s having on everyone around him.”
