Students and staff are celebrating after receiving a prestigious Artsmark Award

Gateway Sixth Form College has achieved an Artsmark Silver Award.

The college has been congratulated for the positive steps taken in developing arts and cultural opportunities for students. Members from college departments such as Learning for Life and Work, Science and Maths, I.T, Media, Health and Social Care and Creative Arts have formed the Artsmark Advocated Group. The group has led to the start of some positive projects such as working with a local architect to create a wall display.

Other projects have included opportunities to celebrate student artwork such as the exhibition space at the Highcross Shopping Centre as well as at the TEDx: Bold and Brilliant Women event held at the college in 2019.

An Inspirational project with photographer Adam Neale gave students a chance to have their work enter the shortlist for the Creative Culture Award. Student Bilal was the winner of the Emerging Artist Award in 2020.

We are also pleased to know that the college’s Gold Award for Mental Health is to be commended while the Arts have played a vital role for the college to be awarded this status.

The Artsmark assessor praised the college for the events and initiatives put together which has helped to “raise the profile of arts across the wider school community”.

Congratulations to everyone who has supported Gateway College to be presented with this prestigious recognition.
