Two years and equivalent to three A Levels at A* – C
A grade A*-C / 9 -4 in GCSE English Language. A passionate interest in Art, Design or Photography and a willingness to learn. Contact us to discuss your suitability or to show us a collection of your artwork.
Unit assessment, you will complete 18 units over 2 years, exploring different specialisms. Each unit is assessed as a Pass, Merit or Distinction and counts toward your final grade. You will develop a portfolio of practical research, developmental work and final outcomes.
This multi-disciplinary course covers a wide range of skills and techniques in Art and Design. Through set project briefs you will study Drawing, Painting, Abode Photoshop, Illustration, Photography, 3D Design, Surface Decoration, Ceramics, Print and Textiles. These disciplines are taught in specially equipped studios. There are units at the end of each year which allow the development of a particular discipline chosen by you. You will gain experience of working with a broad range of media, including traditional and new media technologies.
Many students progress onto the Pre-degree WJEC Foundation Diploma in Art and Design and to a variety of high profile BA (Hons) Degree courses. This course will be valuable for students wishing to pursue a career in Art and Design.
There is a range of extension opportunities for students studying all courses in Art & Design. We support students to submit work to exhibitions and competitions to showcase their work and you will get opportunities to go on study visits to inspire and inform your work. We also benefit from a programme of visiting speakers and professional workshops carried out by professionals who work in the Art & Design Industry. Each year students have their individual Art & Design work displayed in the Summer End of Year Exhibition (June).
