Students who are less comfortable with maths and have had either limited or no success with GCSE Maths are often allocated one of the Entry level functional skills courses. Students will complete a qualification at a level which is best suited to them and the precise level of entry is not decided until the students have settled into college and their teachers have checked where their abilities lie. All of the assessments are taken during class time and can be completed in sections to allow students to demonstrate understanding throughout the course. Students in a teaching group may be taking different levels of assessment, and some students may even complete more than one level qualification during the same academic year.
Once a student has progressed through the Entry Level Functional Skills Qualifications they may move through Level 1, Level 2, and then the GCSE Foundation course.
There will be 3 hours of Maths lessons per week.
