During the 2-year programme, students will learn the core knowledge and skills that are needed for entry to a range of craft and design occupations
2 year technical course
5 GCSE’s Grade 4 or above to include Maths and English, Textiles / Design technology is preferred, and sewing machine experience desired
Year One: Core
Exam 60% – 1 written theory exam, June in the first year, 2.5hours. Can be retaken in November of the second year. This is assessed A*-U. The core knowledge and understanding are assessed through an examination and core skills through a practical employer-set project. Core content is delivered throughout the first year. Employer set project worth 40%, takes place in the first year. 14.5 hours of directed time. 9 Week work placement in industry to take place between June of the first year, to September of the second year. Students can find their own placements or will be provided with placements at 1 or 2 local fashion textile companies.
Year Two: Occupational Specialism
65 hours and 50 mins, and a ‘Make’ task of 21 hours to make a bag. Students who complete their T Level will receive an overall grade of pass, merit, distinction or distinction*. They will get a nationally recognised certificate which will show their overall grade and a breakdown of what they have achieved.
A minimum 45 day industry placement is also included with this course.

• Making an outfit for a hotel worker
• Using textile machinery
As part of the course, students will have a tour and talk these Leicester Fashion textile companies at: Dunelm, Pantherella, Fashion UK, The T Shirt Guy and Fashion Fabrics. There will also be opportunity to apply for jobs at Dunelm and Fashion Fabrics on completion of the course subject to vacancy availability In addition to the core content, each student will also complete at least one module of occupation-specific content as a textiles and fashion maker.
