Alumnus Shevani Patel studied Health and Social Care and Public Services, finishing her studies at Gateway in the summer of 2014.
While she was at the college, Shevani’s ambitions were to have a career in Adult Nursing. She applied to go to university to pursue her further studies. On A Level results day, with the advice from Gateway Careers Lead and her tutor, she used the ‘UCAS Clearing’ system to gain a place at De Montfort University to study Adult Nursing.
“I received valuable support when I was applying from the staff at Gateway; expert careers advice and guidance help with writing my personal statement, interview tips and practise and support when I felt anxious.”
She has since graduated gaining a degree from DMU, and now works as a Neo-Natal Nurse at Leicester Hospitals.
In the 2nd year of her degree course, Shevani visited a neo-natal ward for a day and fell in love with it. She began applying for jobs in the neo-natal field in her 3rd year of uni, and since her graduation, she has been working as a Neo-Natal nurse at Leicester Hospitals.
She says of her role,
“Every day is different; I would recommend Neo-Natal Nursing to anyone. It is emotionally challenging and physically draining but the job satisfaction is so rewarding.”
We wish Shevani all the best for her role and her thriving career!
