This course aims to provide you with opportunities to develop artistic skills which will lead to a range of creative careers.

Course Duration

A Level is a two year course.

 

Standard Entry Requirements

A grade A*-C / 9 -4 in GCSE English Language. A passionate interest in Art, Design or Photography and a willingness to learn. Contact us to discuss your suitability or to show us a collection of your artwork.

Materials Fee

A £50 studio fee includes the provision of a basic kit bag.

 

Assessment of A Level

There are 2 components, a personal investigation and an externally set exam project. You will produce a portfolio of practical research work and outcomes and an illustrated reflective essay.

 

Course Overview

This highly creative and successful course aims to give you the confidence and skills to explore a diverse range of themes and to develop a questioning and analytical attitude.

There is a strong emphasis on the teaching of creative, contemporary drawing skills and developing underpinning research skills. You are encouraged to explore and experiment through a wide range of Art and Design media, including drawing, painting, print, textiles, and Photoshop. Observational drawing and recording skills are very important.  You will study a range of contemporary artists to help inform your ideas.  Your practical design work will be recorded in a sketch book and development will lead to a personally developed final outcomes in your chosen area this could be painting, drawing, textiles, illustration, mixed media or fashion or Surface Pattern. 

 

Career Progression

The Art and Design Programme Area at Gateway has an excellent reputation. Many students progress onto the highly successful Pre-degree WJEC Foundation Diploma in Art and Design and to a variety of high profile BA (Hons) Degree courses.    

This course aims to provide you with opportunities to develop artistic skills which will lead to a range of creative careers.

 

Further Information

There are a range of extension opportunities for students studying all courses in Art and Design.  Previous visits have included London Galleries and location visits to source projects. We also benefit from a programme of visiting speakers and professional workshops carried out by professionals who work in the Art and Design Industry. Each year student display individual Art & Design work in the Summer End of Year Exhibition (June).
