6 credits awarded for Science short course and 6 credits awarded for CoPE modules
12 credits overall = pass
You will study 6 different units in different areas of science. Each module is designed to give you a lead-in to further study of that particular topic if you chose to progress onto a Level 2 course the following year.
The units are:
Module 1 Human Machine – how do our bodies work?
Module 2 Forces and Motion – how do things work and move?
Module 3 Chemical Changes – what are the elements?
Module 4 Biological Challenges – how do things grow and live?
Module 5 Space Physics – where are we?
Module 6 Performance in Sport – how fast can we go?
In addition to your course specialism, Functional Skills maths and English, Employability Skills and Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE) are embedded within your programme of study. At the beginning of your course you will complete a diagnostic assessment to identify your starting point level.
You can move on to Level 2 Science or Level 2 Health and Social Care
