This qualification provides you with a comprehensive coverage of the sector, allowing you to progress to a range of sport-related courses in higher education.
1st year: Foundation Diploma in Sport (Equivalent to 1.5 AS Level)
2nd year: Extended Diploma in Sport (Equivalent to 3 A Level)
5 or more GCSEs grade C/5 or above including English Language, Maths and Science. It would also be beneficial to have a relevant level 2 qualification in Sport e.g. A GCSE in Physical Education or Level 2 Sport at a merit grade.

The BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport is an academic, practical and vocational course. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations and activities in addition to a number of externally set tasks and exams.
The course will develop your academic understanding of the sports industry. In addition, you will develop the transferrable and high-order skills that are highly regarded by higher education and employers. For example, the study of sport particularly encourages the development of skills and behaviors such as teamwork, communication, organisation, leadership, problem solving, creative thinking and planning, research, performance analysis, resilience, evaluation, analysis and synthesising concepts. These skills are developed through the variety of approaches to teaching and learning enabled by the specification.
The course is equivalent to three ‘A’ levels and carries UCAS points as well as recognised by higher education providers as meeting admission requirements to many relevant sport or leisure degree courses.
Learners who complete the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma often go onto further or higher education, studying HNDs or degrees or employment within the sport and leisure industry. Some examples include: Sports Coaching, Sports Business, Sports Science, Leisure Management, Fitness Instructing and Personal Training or Physical Education Teaching qualifications.
