This qualification has been developed to meet the needs of a broad spectrum of uniformed protective service areas from uniformed roles in defence, emergency, security and justice, to non-uniformed roles in central and local government.
2 year course
5 or more GCSEs grade C/4 or above including English Language and where possible a grade D/3 or above in Maths. It would also be beneficial to have a relevant Level 2 qualification in Public Services at a merit grade.

This course enables you to develop your confidence and interpersonal skills; there is a strong emphasis on developing personal discipline through individual and team activities. During the course you may take part in visits to a variety of Public Service organisations, listen to talks from guest speakers in the industry, and complete a residential. The course offers an insight into careers in the Police, Fire and Ambulance Services, Army, Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Royal Air Force, Prison Service, Security Organisations, HM Customs, the National Health Service, and Social Work to name but a few.
As the course is equivalent to 3 A Levels the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma is an ideal spring board for progression to a Foundation Degree or Full Degree depending on UCAS points gained.
Students will also become occupationally ready to take up employment in the uniformed protective services.

You will gain a wide range of transferable skills needed for uniformed protective service employment and have the opportunity to be involved in taster sessions, trips and visits from guest speakers. You will gain the knowledge, understanding and skills required for success in current and future employment, or for progression to courses such as BTEC Higher Nationals, Foundation degrees or Honours degrees. Previous learners have also progressed into higher education to study criminology and law at university.
