5 GCSE’s at Grade A*-C/9-5 including English Language at grade 5/C or above and Maths at grade 6/B or above plus all three Single Sciences at grade 5/C or above or, grades B/6, B/6 in Synergy or Trilogy Combined Science.
This course can only be taken in conjunction with A level Physics and A level Mathematics. The core topics are broad and allow a range of practical skills to be developed. The Scientific Investigations unit requires students to carry out their own research project using the Scientific Method. The optional units allow students to develop their interests in different fields of Applied Physics.
This course, taken alongside A level Physics and A level Maths, will provide the opportunity to hone the practical skills and tools necessary to progress onto an Engineering Course in Higher Education or an Engineering Apprenticeship or job. In particular, this course provides a direct pathway to pursing a Bsc degree in Physics at most universities.
Most students taking A-level Chemistry go onto University courses in Chemistry or science related disciplines. A Level Chemistry is essential for Medicine, Dentistry, Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences and Chemical Engineering.
Pathway to Engineering (Partnership with University of Leicester)
This course, alongside A level Physics and A level Maths, will provide a progression route directly on to the Physics Bsc and MPhys courses at University of Leicester. It can also be a pathway to other Physics and Engineering courses at most regional universities subject to gaining A*-B/9-6 grades in both Maths and Physics A level and a Distinction in Applied Physics BTEC as a minimum.
