2 years for A Level.
Standard Entry Requirements
- 5 GCSEs at Grade 9 – 4 required
- Grade 5 or above in Maths
- Grade 5 and above in English Language
- Grade 5 in all three Single Sciences or
- Grades 56 in Synergy or Trilogy combined Science
Assessment of Course:
20% Coursework, 80% Examination.
There is a strong emphasis on practical work throughout the course so that students are in a position to design, build and test a working electronic system for their projects at both AS and A-level. The course is split approximately 60% theory and 40% practical.
As with other Science subjects, this course is suitable for progression onto Science or Engineering based Higher Education courses. It also provides an excellent grounding for apprenticeships in either Electrical or Electronic Engineering.
A wide variety of topics are studied including digital and analogue electronics, communication systems, audio systems, microprocessors, assembler language programming, robotics and neural networks.
