5 GCSEs at Grade A* -C/9-5 to include English Language and Art. A portfolio of work would need to be presented at interview.

Portfolio of practical research work and outcomes, illustrated reflective essay. Externally set practical research and outcome.
This highly creative and successful course aims to give you the confidence and skills to explore a diverse range of themes and to develop a questioning and analytical attitude.
There is a strong emphasis on the teaching of creative, contemporary drawing skills and developing underpinning research skills. You are encouraged to explore and experiment through a wide range of Art and Design media. Observational drawing and recording skills are very important. You will study a range of contemporary artists to help inform your ideas. Your practical design work will be recorded in a sketch book and this will lead to final paintings, illustrations and artefacts.
Gateway is known for an outstanding end of year exhibition which is open to the public. Your work will feature in this.
The Art and Design Programme Area at Gateway has an excellent reputation. Many students progress onto the highly successful Pre-degree BTEC Foundation Diploma in Art and Design and to a variety of high profile BA (Hons) Degree courses. This course will be valuable for students wishing to pursue a career related to Art and Design.
This course aims to provide you with opportunities to develop artistic skills which will lead to a range of creative careers.
There are a range of extension opportunities for students studying all courses in Art & Design. Previous visits have included London Galleries, Craft Galleries, Clothes Show Live and Derbyshire. We also benefit from a programme of visiting speakers and professional workshops carried out by professionals who work in the Art & Design Industry. Each year students participate in creating for the Gateway Fashion Show and display individual Art & Design work in the Summer End of Year Exhibition (June).
