This multi-disciplinary course covers a wide range of skills and techniques in Art and Design. Through set project briefs you will study Drawing, Painting, Abode Photoshop and Illustrator, Illustration, Photography, Surface Decoration, Ceramics, Jewellery, Sculpture, Print, Fashion and Textiles. These disciplines are taught in specially equipped studios. There is a Final Major Project at the end of each year which allows the development of a particular discipline chosen by you. You will gain experience of working with a broad range of media, including traditional and new media technologies. Gateway is known for an outstanding end of year exhibition; your work may feature in this.
Many students progress onto the BTEC Foundation Diploma in Art and Design and to a variety of high profile BA (Hons) Degree courses. This course will be valuable for students wishing to pursue a career in Art and Design.
There is a range of extension opportunities for students studying all courses in Art & Design. Study visits to Botanical Gardens, Pitt Rivers Museum Oxford, and Wells-next-the-sea. We also benefit from a programme of visiting speakers and professional workshops carried out by professionals who working the Art & Design Industry. Each year students participate in creating for the Gateway Fashion Show (April) and display individual Art & Design work in the Summer End of Year Exhibition (June).
