Fashion & Textiles Technology BTEC Level 3

Course Duration

BTEC Level 3 90 credit Diploma (year 1) and Extended Diploma (year 2) are both one year courses with the Extended Diploma being a 3 A Level equivalent

Entry Requirements

5 GCSEs at Grade A*- C including English Language and Maths and an art or design subject

Assessment of 90 Credit Diploma and Extended Diploma

Portfolio of practical research, development work and outcomes.

Overview

This exciting course has been established in response to labour market intelligence which confirms the resurgence in fashion and textiles, with over 700 businesses regionally. A strong emphasis is placed on industry standard practice with the development of academic skills designed to support progression to University or in to work. You will develop technical skills such as CAD/CAM, pattern cutting, and the use of Adobe Software. You will create a personal response to ideas, observations, and experiences in a practical, critical and contextual form in relation to the fashion and textiles sector. Work experience is an integral part of the course and you will undertake a minimum of two work placements with fashion and textiles companies. This course will also include drawing and illustration, research and development of ideas and the study of contemporary designers. All project briefs are set by industry and final outcomes formally assessed by the College.

Gateway College holds an exciting annual Fashion Show – you will create garments for this as part of the course.

Further Information

There are a range of opportunities such as visits to galleries, fashion and textiles companies and the Clothes Show Live.  Students also benefit from visiting speakers and professional workshops. Students will create designs for the Gateway Fashion Show (December) and display individual Art & Design technical work in the Summer End of Year Exhibition (June).
