Gateway College Past And Present Cricket Teams Go Head To Head

On a glorious sunny afternoon at Syston Cricket Club, the Gateway College Students XI defeated the Graham Blatherwick Alumni XI with ease. 

The students scored 221 for 8 from 25 overs and the Blatherwick XI fell 98 runs short for the loss of 9 wickets. There was some excellent early hitting from the students - particularly Irbaaz Rangara, who was retired on 75, and Cricketer of the Year Harsimran Singh - from some poor bowling.

Gateway College Retains City FE Varsity Trophy For Another Year

Over 200 young people, aged 16-19 from across the city took part in the fifth annual Further Education (FE) Varsity Championship on Wednesday 3rd May. 

The event took place at the Leicester Arena and saw defending champion Gateway College retain their title against Wyggeston and Queen Elizabeth I College, Regent College and Leicester College across five sport disciplines including basketball, cricket, dodgeball, table tennis and badminton.

Gateway College Football Team Storms Through To National Finals

The triumphant 12 Gateway students nimbly saw off competition from 16 other College football teams from across the East Midlands in the Association of Colleges (AOC) 7-a-side Football Tournament at the end of 2016, landing Gateway with the coveted place of representing the East Midlands in the National Finals in April.

In the regional heats, the Gateway College team came top of their grouping above Tresham College, Bilborough College and Grantham College to take the shield.

College Team Wins the ‘Blatherwick Cup'

College Team Wins the ‘Blatherwick Cup'

Current and former Gateway students and staff went head-to-head in the annual cricket match hosted by and named after former teacher Graham Blatherwick.  The Blatherwick Cup takes pride of place in the Colleges sporting calendar with members of Gateways alumni and staff forming the Graham Blatherwick XI team and playing the current College cricket team.
