Ten students from Gateway College have had work selected to be part of a very special exhibition in the city called 'Little Selves'.  The students were challenged to create a miniature portrait, no larger than 23cm tall and responded by making an exciting and unique collection of 2D and 3D pieces using a variety of mediums.

Of the ten students selected, two won prizes and a third prize was created in special recognition of the quality of the work presented by Gateway College.  A fourth student received a highly sought after ‘red dot’, indicating the only sale made at the Preview and Awards Event.

The prizes were presented by Leicester Society of Artists (LSA) President Lars Tharp, a popular ceramics expert often seen on the BBC 'Antiques Roadshow’ and ‘Quizzeum’, and LSA Chair Suzanne Harry.

A spokesperson for Gateway College said, “We are thrilled to have been selected to take part in this prestigious exhibition and over the moon to have received prizes in recognition of the work submitted.  The students who have taken part are studying a range of courses at Gateway including the Pre-Degree Foundation Art and Design Diploma, A Level Art and BTEC Diploma Ceramics.  We are very proud of their achievements and look forward to watching them progress in the future.”

The artwork will be on display to the public at the New Walk Museum and Art Gallery from 24th March to 25th June 2017.  The show is organised by the LSA and supported by Arts Council England.  It features work by artists from the past and present including portraits from the museum's own collection of miniatures, examples from contemporary artists including LSA members, and work by Art and Design students from local schools and colleges.

The exhibition is free to enter and proves that small is indeed beautiful!
